Kevin Millar is starting to look like he’s toast for the Toronto Blue Jays

38-year old 1B/DH Kevin Millar looks like he’s nearing the end of his major league career. He has played in 63 games this season for the Blue Jays and he is 47 for 205 (.229 avg, .686 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 6 homers and 27 RBIs. It’s too bad that Lyle Overbay doesn’t hit better against lefties because it’s hard to watch Millar bat sometimes as he has lost a lot of his bat speed.

Rookie Marc Rzepczynski has looked sharp for the Toronto Blue Jays

24-year old lefty starting pitcher Marc Rzepczynski has burst onto the scene for the Blue Jays. He has started 10 games for the Jays this season and he is 2-3 with a 3.58 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He has only allowed 43 hits in 55 1/3 innings this season while whiffing 51 batters showing that he has good stuff. He does need to clean up his control a little bit as he has walked 28 batters this season and that’s too many. Rzepczynski was the Blue Jays’ #9 prospect coming into this season according to Baseball America and he’s showing why. He looks like a keeper.

The Toronto Blue Jays lose Alex Rios on waivers to the White Sox

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Tuesday 11 August 2009 at 5:13 pm

The Blue Jays elected to let the White Sox have 28-year old righty swinging outfielder Alex Rios for absolutely nothing. Sure, the Blue Jays save a lot of money in this deal but it is ridiculous for them not to get anything for Rios. Rios played in 108 games for the Blue Jays this season and he was 115 for 436 (.264 avg, .744 OPS) with 52 runs scored, 14 homers, 62 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. Rios played six years in Toronto in which he played in 809 games in which he was 875 for 3,071 (.285 avg, .786 OPS) with 451 runs scored, 81 homers, 395 RBIs and 112 stolen bases. This is a very bad sign for the future of the Blue Jays.

The Toronto Blue Jays sign Wil Ledezma

The Blue Jays have signed 28-year old lefty reliever Wil Ledezma to a minor league deal. Ledezma pitched in 5 games (0 starts) earlier this season for the Nationals in which he was 0-0 with a 9.53 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP. He has now pitched in 160 games (40 starts) in the majors and he is 15-22 with a 5.17 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. Lefty pitchers with arms like Ledezma are sometimes late bloomers so this was a good low risk move for the Blue Jays.

Brian Dopirak is making a name for himself this season for the Toronto Blue Jays

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The Minors by chinmusic on Monday 3 August 2009 at 12:08 am

25-year old righty swinging 1B Brian Dopirak was not considered much of a prospect before this season started but things have changed because of his play. Dopirak has played in 103 games in AA+AAA ball this season and he is 124 for 395 (.314 avg, .939 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 22 homers and 81 RBIs. If the Blue Jays move Lyle Overbay this month in a trade then maybe Dopirak will get a chance.

It’s August 1st and Roy Halladay is still a Toronto Blue Jay

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 1 August 2009 at 7:06 pm

It’s good to be a Blue Jays fan. Sure, they traded Scott Rolen yesterday but they still have ace starting pitcher Roy Halladay. With all of the rumors flying about Halladay you had to think he was a goner. But, no team stepped up and offered what the Blue Jays wanted so they were smart to keep him. Halladay has started 20 games for the Blue Jays this season and he is 11-4 with a 2.68 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. In twelve seasons with the Blue Jays, Halladay has pitched in 301 games (275 starts) in which he is 142-70 with 1 save, a 3.45 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. At least you know the Blue Jays have a good chance to win at least once every five days and that’s when the Doc is on the mound.
